If you’re looking for one of the most popular surfing destinations- the Teahupo’o is for you. This south west corner of Tahiti is world renown for the massive waves that bring surfers from every corner of the earth wanting to test their skill. Waves here reach on average 2-3 meters high (or 6-9 feet) but they have also been known to reach 7 meters (23 feet) high. It is no wonder that the annual Billabong Pro Surf Competition is held here.

This is the place where I first tried to learn how to surf. While I was definitely not a natural at the sport, the fact that I was there at such a legendary surfing spot made me all the more determined to keep getting back up on the board and trying to stay on. While I spent more time falling in the water then riding on it, it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. But what I really loved was watching all the amazing surfers as they made their way on and in the waves. Watching a pro in this place was absolutely incredible.
