Columbia River Maritime Museum {Oregon}

Near the mouth of the Columbia River is one of the most interesting maritime museums I have ever been to. The river is massive and far more dangerous than people realize. During the peak of storm season, waves can reach close to 40 feet tall. And yet despite the danger, there are a number of people who maneuver these waters daily. This museum takes visitors through the history of the river and the boats that face the treacherous waters. It also has exhibits dedicated to the coast guard who work tirelessly is bringing people to safety from the storms. You can even walk inside Lightship Columbia- a historic ship that has been maintained and preserved and is considered a National Historic Landmark. This museum is fantastic and well worth a visit whenever you find yourself North Pacific Coast.
