This castle was built sometime around 1177 century by John de Courcey after his invasion of the Ulster area and has stood here overlooking the beautiful countryside ever since. This idyllic spot sits on top of a rocky hill with stunning views of the Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains. Wandering through the ruins of this castle takes you back in time as you try to visualize in whatever ability you can of life hundreds of years ago. It is amazing that this castle has withstood the tests of time as well as it has and that visitors can still make the circular way up a narrow staircase to then reach the top rewarded with some astounding views.
