After visiting the Slugger Museum, we then made our way to the beautiful historic district of Louisville. This area is full of colorful, ornately decorated homes from the Victorian period. Each home is fashioned in a different style but they all somehow seem to fit beautifully next to each other. The garden spaces are full of lush canopies of trees and the blossoms of springtime are poking out. Walking along the hexagonal pathway, marveling at the lovely architecture of the homes, with the sound of the fountain nearby made for a perfect walk in this beautiful historic district. This district even has it’s own castle. The Conrad-Caldwell House sits in the middle of the historic district and is an iconic ornament to the city of Louisville. This home was built in 1895 by local architect Arthur Loomis and stands as a lasting tribute to the stunning architecture of the gilded age. {Know if you go :: they offer limited tours through this mansion with only a few slots on the weekend in the early afternoon available. We ended our visit to the historic district with an early lunch at the Old Louisville Tavern. The area is full of new age places to eat, but we wanted a place with all the history of the district itself and we absolutely found it. This unassuming building has sat on the corner of 4th street and Gaulbert since 1933 and offers delicious food in a tavern setting. This historic district was so lovely and made for such a fanciful place to spend some time and could probably be my favorite part of the city.
