You know that feeling when the big trip you’ve been anticipating for months gets canceled the day before you were suppose to leave? Yeah, that’s where we’re at right now. We’ve been getting ready to leave for Germany to spend this next week in the winter wonders of Munich. But then the news came that Austria is going back into lockdown. So we scratched our day trip to Salzburg from our plans. Then we heard that all the Christmas markets were canceled throughout Germany. Well that’s disappointing but we could still enjoy seeing the city. Then it came that Germany will most likely go into lockdown too and that in moving in that direction all the businesses and cultural centers would have serious restrictions placed on them if they were open at all. We also got the third notification that our flight had changed adding all the more hours to an already long trip. So with all of this in mind, we decided it was best to cancel our trip. We’re grateful that we found out about all of this before we left instead of while we were there, but we’re still feeling that ache of disappointment. Not sure what we will do with this week now. We may go visit my in-laws in Missouri or we may go explore one of the states around here. But I think it’s safe to say that no matter where we go I think we would rather that we were in Munich.
On a happier note, you may remember me telling you about the position that I applied for last month. I interviewed for two positions within the same department and was offered a job for one of them! It wasn’t the one I had hoped for, but I’m still so elated that I got the other one. I’ll be working as a coordinator for international student services of the university and I can’t hardly wait to begin. The hiring process has been a little slowed because of the holidays coming up. They would have loved for me to start the first of December but it’s looking more like the first part of January before I’ll get over there. I’m so excited to start off the new year with a new job and all the opportunities that it will bring.
So with that, I think I’ll go put up my Christmas tree while I think through what we will do this week. Thanks for being the place where I can share my woes and joys today. Sending all my best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to you and yours 🙂
