River Styx Trail- Mammoth Cave National Park {Kentucky}

After exploring the wonders of the caves, we decided to explore one of the many trails above ground that Mammoth Cave offers. Right off the entrance/exit to the cave is the River Styx Trail. It leads down a gentle path through the trees until you come to a small spring that flows from the cave out into the hills beyond. The trail then goes back up towards the visitor center going along a boardwalk and then an easy series of switchbacks to the top. This trail is a hidden gem of the park and it was a perfect way to finish off the day. The leaves are just starting to change which added to the beauty of the trail and the views it offers. I would say this trail is easy- not very long and not too strenuous of a climb- and is easy to enjoy for everyone who takes the time to see it.

{Know if you go:: Mammoth Cave is one of the few national parks that is dog friendly. Dogs are not allowed in the cave itself but on all the trails aboveground. The park even offers a kennel where pups can run and play while you are in the cave and then they can come explore the trails with you, provided they are on a leash.}
